I’ve had several folks ask about my smoothie obsession: “what do you put in them?” “can you send me your recipes??” “I want to make smoothies, but I don’t know where to start!”

Honestly, I throw a bunch of stuff into the food processor and see what works! Over time, I’ve found certain things that work better than others, certain ingredients that my family tastes and hates, and other ingredients that I can hide without them noticing. I have some general things that I almost always use (milk, ice, some sort of fruit), and then the rest is whatever I happen to have on hand and feel like tossing in. I thought it might be helpful, however, to post our “smoothie of the day” to offer up some ideas. So here’s our Smoothie of the Day for February 28, 2011 (and I’m sipping on it right now…)

Servings: 4 (2 adult-sized, 2 kid-sized) adjust accordingly!

2 bananas
3/4 cup strawberries (I used fresh, but frozen is ok too)
1 cup milk
1T honey
1T ground flaxseed
1T cinnamon
2 scoops Muscle Milk
4 cups crushed ice (my fridge does cubed or crushed…crushed is easier on the food processor)

Throw everything into a food processor or a POWERFUL blender (I’ve broken 3 – yes THREE – blenders making smoothies. Don’t overestimate your machine’s strength!!) and blend until smooth. Done and done. 🙂
