I had the distinct pleasure of attending Matthew Hill’s reelection hootenanny (and it was quite a hootenanny!) this evening. Located at the Cranberry Thistle in downtown Jonesborough, the party featured soup beans, hoecakes, potato salad, macaroni salad, several desserts…sorry, you know the pregnant woman is only going to want to talk about the food. There was also a really great bluegrass band.

Representative Hill was unfortunately stuck in Nashville until 4 o’clock this afternoon due to a hold-up on SJR 127 (which did make it to the floor this afternoon – sort of). Hill was able, however, to address supporters via telephone and officially announced his bid for reelection.

I had a great time getting some political scoop from various and sundry unnamed sources. The crowd, however, was, by and large, average folks from the district. Although there were a few “political insiders” in the bunch, most were there just because they appreciate Matthew.

Once Hill’s campaign gets into full swing at the end of the legislative session (hopefully next week), you can expect updates from yours truly on the status of Hill’s bid. So far, thanks entirely to supporters and campaign staff, over 3000 homes have been visited on Hill’s behalf.
