Alfred Nobel wrote that his Peace Prize should be given to one who has, among other things, done the most for the “abolition or reduction of standing armies.” What in the name of all things sacred has Al Gore done to abolish or reduce standing armies?

Let’s take a brief look at a few Nobel Peace Prize recipients:

  • Theodore Roosevelt (1906)
  • International Peace Bureau (1910)
  • International Committee of the Red Cross (1917, 1944)
  • Woodrow Wilson (1919)
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1964)
  • Henry Kissinger (1973)
  • Amnesty International (1977)
  • Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat (1978)
  • Mother Theresa (1979)
  • Desmond Tutu (1984)
  • Elie Wiesel (1986)
  • Mikhail Gorbachev (1990)
  • Nelson Mandela (1993)
  • Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin (1994)

Seriously, does anyone think that Al Gore belongs on this list?

If there were an award for wacky alarmist ex-politicians, then Al would certainly be deserving; but the Nobel Peace Prize? I think not.
